A Day of Trauma

Today was stupid. Completely stupid. I have been dreading today for about a month, since I got the lab slip in the mail from Andi's Dr. saying she needed to have her blood drawn a week before her physical. The mere mention of the word shot puts her in hysterics and gives her nightmares, and they wanted me to have her blood drawn. UGH!
So I didn't tell her until right before we left what was going on, and immediately she's in tears and hyperventilating. So I calm her down and tell her if she tries to be brave we will buy tangled on the way and a milkshake once she's done. She was calm enough until they called her name and then it was "I don't want to be here, I don't like needles, I don't want to go to school anymore!"  Then we get back to the room and all I did was put her on my lap in the chair and she's flailing and screaming. I think she screamed worse than Sammy did when he cut off his own finger! Anyway, it took my mom and I and another worker to restrain her long enough to get the 1 vile of blood and a tb test.
We put the movie on in the car, got her a shake, and she calmed down. But it was a couple of hours before she would straighten out her arm. She was convinced it would hurt if she did. So that's stupid number 1.
Stupid number 2 is Sammy. This kid get's hysterical over having his hair cut. He cries, and shakes, and fights me all the way. So imagine my surprise when I found Sammy in the bathroom like this.

And it really only took him seconds to plug the clippers in himself and do this. I had just put his shoes on in the front room and was getting the bag ready to go and went down the hall to find him. Seconds!!!  Ugh, so I put a number 1 on the clippers because I couldn't bear to do it without a guard like he did, and shaved the rest of his cute hair off.

Obviously this look is better than leaving it as he did it, but i hate it. And yes, his face is covered in dirt. There was just no way to save it. It better grow quickly!

The Zoo

Saturday we took the kids to CALM, which is the Bakersfield version of a zoo. They loved it. I know we've taken them before, but Sammy was a baby and Andi must not have remembered. Andi was our tour guide the whole morning and had to check her map for everything.

Sammy likes birds. He chased the un-caged ones all over the place, and tried to climb in with the caged ones.

Andi's favorite were the deer. They were very friendly.

I'm glad we got that visit in, because it rained all day yesterday and is supposed to be cold and rainy all week. Spring is so bi-polar sometimes it makes me crazy. It was really warm last week, so I went out Saturday and got summer clothes for the kids. And now it's cold and rainy. Speaking of the clothes shopping, I am now buying Sammy's shirts in the little boys section. Not toddlers, boys! He's 2!!! His bottoms are still 3t, but his tops are 4's,(little boy smalls). I think that's ridiculous. I was telling Thad about it, so he weighed Sammy to find that at 2, he's also heavy enough to get out of the big car seat and into a booster. 40lbs! Andi is only 45 lbs!  Thad keeps telling me we are going to dress him up as the juggernaut for halloween this year because he's so big. And since you can't throw out a cardboard box before you've played with it first, here's sammy  modeling Thad's version of the costume. I told him it really needed to be rounded.

Bull's-eye!

With all the shooting outings that have been going on lately Thad decided he needed a new gun. So he bought one, and then ordered a new scope, and barrel, and stock; basically he bought 1 3/4 guns. Now that it is all together he took Andi out to break it in with him Friday afternoon. She loved it and when she came home she told me that she got all her shots in the little circle, but Daddy's were in the big circle outside of the little circle. I'm pretty sure she's wrong, but we'll let her believe it.

Sammy always has to be in the middle of whatever Thad is doing, and while he was gathering his ammo and gear Sammy dumped the ammo all over the ground. But he very patiently picked it back up. I think he would have kept dumping and gathering over and over again if we let him.

That's his concentration face. He puckers his lips out and scowls, you just can't see the scowl very well.
The "mormal"(tri-stake formal dance for the 16-18 yr olds)  was this weekend, and the kids in our ward had a dinner beforehand at my parents house. They also had a photo shoot in my backyard before dinner which was really funny. Some of them were super awkward, but others got really into the picture taking. But it was totally strange to have Bradon a part of the group this year and on his first date. He can't be old enough!! I know he's taller than me now, but in my head Bradon is still this little guy.

We are finally getting around to teaching Andi to tie her shoes and it's going to be a struggle. I tie one way, and Thad ties another. It's the same method, just using different hands. And as usual we both think we are doing it the right way, so we are polling all of you. When you are tying your shoes, do you hold the first loop with your left hand and circle the second loop with your right, or hold right and circle left? Does that make sense?

Home Run?

Okay so I don't know how to edit video, so this one is a little longer than it needs to be, but I thought it was funny. This was a few weekends ago and Thad was playing t-ball with Sammy and he was trying so hard to hit the ball that he kept falling over.

Sammy is finally talking a little more. This weekend alone I heard five new words. He still has a ways to go, but the biggest difference is he's trying now. And if you ask him to say something he will try instead of pout and run away. He's up to 56 words and his newest phrase is "all mine!"(yelled while wrapping his arms around his bowl of mac and cheese, like someone was going to eat his food.)
Andi has been going to town on memorizing the Articles of Faith. She passed off number 8 yesterday and as soon as we got home she wanted to start memorizing 9. She cannot get enough of Baby Porter these days and is always asking to go see him.
I have been exercising with Kelsie the last two weeks, and though she does not seem impressed by my efforts(or lack thereof), I'm finally passed the phase where everything makes me sore. But I've decided I dislike exercising, and I'm pretty sure I will quit after our Hawaii trip, which is the whole reason I'm even doing this. oh ya, Thad and I leave for Hawaii in a month and one day. Boo-ya.
I got the, I have to change things right now, bug a few weeks ago and have made several trips to the fabric store. It started with the chairs in the dinning room, and then I made curtains and pillow covers for the living room, and bought new candles. But,  Thad is a little sensitive to the way they smell, so now I'm looking for all new decor for the bookcase, fireplace, and entertainment center. We have a homegoods now, the grand opening was last week and Kelsie and I went. Big mistake. I think I'll go back in a few weeks and look for stuff, because it was so packed. They were completely out of baskets, and the check out line wrapped all the way around the store. lame. Anyway, here are the new creations.

Close up of the bottom of the panels. I love that fabric!

I've seriously been walking around the house trying to find reasons to sew or make something new. No luck yet, but I'm sure I'll think of something in a few days.
