Field Trip

So a few weekends ago we had a cul-de-sac yard sale. And it was madness. Start time at 7:00, and when we got out there at 6:30 to set up, the place already looked like this.

It stayed that busy for 4 hours and we were able to get rid of almost all of our stuff! About 10 o'clock Thad mentioned to the kids that they should have been selling lemon aid or something. A few minutes later, this was happening, and the kids brought in like $25 in the 30 minutes they were open. We've decided that next year we will just run a concession stand in our driveway.

The next weekend we decided to go down to LA to visit with Mom and Dad who were back in the hospital, and take the kids to the science museum at USC.  I wasn't sure how Peter was going to do in a place like that, but he loved it. They all did. Sammy and Andi got into all the interactive exhibits, and peter literally ran around all three floors pushing every single button he could find.

Wind machine, demonstrating airplane wings in flight, and blowing everyone away.

The Endeavor was a tie for favorite part of the day. Sammy could not get over the fact that that space shuttle had actually been in outer space.

The other half of the tie was the marine life exhibit with this awesome aquarium tunnel and the sea creatures you could pet up on the top floor. Peter ran around this area yelling "Nemo! Dory!"

And let's get real, going up and down the elevators at the hospital was also a ridiculously exciting thing to do, over and over again.
We stopped at Denny's to grab dinner on the way home. I think that's the only "restaurant" we will ever take our kids to. Mostly because they are insane and acted like caged animals when we told them to stay sitting down in their seats. But also because they were beyond excited to have pancakes for dinner. Easy to please I guess.
Other things of note, Andi got bangs, as you can see. Normally a haircut would not be something to note, but Andi taking an interest in her hair is a huge deal. She's worn a pony tail every day but Sunday for a couple years now. She can't be bothered with anything else. So when she asked if she could get bangs I felt like something feminine was trying to claw it's way out of her and we cut them that night. She even let me straighten her hair so she could wear it down for a couple days in a row. The novelty has worn off a bit, and she hates hair spray, but she still likes the bangs and let's me do them each morning without a fight, so that's progress.
Sammy can not wait for summer break. He is definitely not as fond of school as Andi is. We let them skip school on a friday to go down to the museum, and you would have thought it was Christmas. Sammy really didn't care where we went, he was just really happy to know he was missing school. He's reading and writing well and looking forward to next year when he won't be on the kinder play ground anymore and will get to learn "real math".
Peter talks all day long. I know most almost three year olds do, but this is a big deal around here because of how long it took him to start talking. He repeats everything I say as a question, or argues and says the opposite of what I just said. He says cup backwards, "puc of juice pwease", uses a very unfortunate word for truck, and says "mm, licious" if he really likes something he's eating.  He's obsessed with watches. If you are wearing one he will take it off and claim it for his own, and points out "tick tocks" every where we go. Sammy did that too at this age, but called it a cwock. I think both these boys will be mechanically inclined, they just love to watch anything with gears to turn and figure out how things work.

Peter is also getting more proficient in his prison break attempts. This week alone he got out front twice. Once he climbed on a couple of sandbags that some foolish person left too close to the fence and unlatched the gate. The other time he drug a 5 gallon bucket to the fence, flipped it over, and climbed up to open the latch. We are seriously considering electrifying our gate, and maybe the fence around the pond. A couple good shocks would get him to stop right?

School is out in 3 weeks and while the kids are really excited for it, I'm not sure I'm ready!
